MMSU LiDAR 2 conductsin-house training on pixel-based classification

As part of MMSU LiDAR 2 team’s capacity building, an in-house training was conducted.

Held at the university’s Crops Research Laboratory – One-stop Information Shop (CRL-OSIS) on January 10, 2015, the training was facilitated by the project’s Senior Science Research Specialist,Mr.Ricahard Dean Yadao; and three Research Associates: Engr. Ma. Camille Gonzales, Engr. Christine Bumanglag, and Mr. Benedict Castro, respectively.

The in-house training served as an avenue for the newly hired staff of the project tolevel-off the understanding of the project goals and the use of the different computer programs.

Hands-on exercises on Pixel based classification using Lastools and ENVI 4.7 software were given to the participants. Moreover, Landsat data of IlocosNorte was used in the said training.

Participants were able to learn pre-processing techniques and produced maps using the supervised and unsupervised classification in Envi 4.7. Also, exercise on feature extraction from lidar data was also given to the participants using Support Vector Machine.
